Covers Knoppix 5.2 !!

Knoppix is a "Live CD" Linux distribution which can be run entirely from the CD, without writing to the hard disk at all - and thus can be run on nearly any modern PC with no installation process. It can be used as a demonstration of Linux on the desktop and an introduction to Linux in general. It can also be used to rescue crashed systems and retrieve heretofore 'lost' data on both Windows and Linux computers.

Since it is not installed on the hard disk, it also provides the ability to create a virtually 'hack-proof' computer because there are no files on the disk that can be altered. If a properly configured Knoppix machine is violated, repairing the damage is as simple as rebooting the computer.

Knoppix Explained provides thorough coverage of this versatile tool, from the Linux newbie who is looking for a way to experiment with Linux without committing a machine entirely to the process, to the experienced Linux user who is simply new to the unique features that Knoppix provides.

The reader will learn how to run Knoppix solely from the CD, and how to learn about Linux with Knoppix without affecting the machine it's being used on. Then the reader will learn about advanced features for users, such as persisting data on the machine, but without having to go through a Linux installation.

Finally, the reader will learn how to use Knoppix for system adminstration, troubling shooting and testing hardware, and maintain, modify and repair a variety of storage media.
